Get to know Yamaha Artist and clarinet player Francisco Cantó

How does your instrument improve your daily life as a musician?

I feel reassured in the fact that I can keep my skill set at a certain level every day of the year. When you play an instrument like the Yamaha Artist Model clarinet, you're guaranteed to maintain high standards of sound quality, even on days when other more variable factors such as body or reed condition are not at their best.

What are the most outstanding features of your instrument?

Good tuning and a great balance between vibration and resistance, flexibility and uniformity.

When did you first come across Yamaha?

I first came across Yamaha in 2020, when I had the opportunity to visit YAS-Paris to choose my instruments.

Which musician has influenced you the most in your music career? Are you still following any of their advice?

I would have to name two: Carlos Gil González and José Luis Estellés, both of whom are clarinetists with the City of Granada Orchestra and have taught me clarinet. There isn't a class I teach where I don't remember some of their sage advice.

What advice would you give to a musician who is just starting out in their career?

You've got to ask yourself if music gives meaning to your life. The answer will determine whether or not you should keep pursuing a career in music.
